The Pharmaindustry Code for personal data protection in clinical research and pharmacovigilance was presented and approved in June 2009 and included in the General Register of Data Protection of the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (Spanish Agency of Data Protection). Said Code defines the possible procedures for data decoupling of patients participating in clinical studies:

• Clinical trials.
• Observational type post-authorisation studies and other types of observational studies.
